MRI Scan Costs at GWIC

MRI is a diagnostic imaging exam that uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency signals to create pictures of organs and structures inside the body. MRI gives additional and different information about internal structures than can be seen with other imaging modalities and in many cases will show issues that cannot be seen with other imaging technologies.

Your physician will order a Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam for many reasons including evaluating tumors, bleeding, injury or trauma, vasculature diseases, or infection. MRI also may be done to provide more information about a problem seen with other imaging modalities. Frequently, contrast agents will be used during the MRI scan to show abnormal tissue more clearly. Briefly, an MRI scan is indicated for the following:

  • Evaluate the brain for tumors, aneurysms, hemorrhage or bleeding, stroke and other problem
  • Evaluate problems with the eyes, optic nerves, ears, sinuses, TMJ, and auditory nerves
  • Investigate the internal and external structures of the chest such as the heart, heart valves and vessels, lungs, chest vasculature, and breasts
  • Visualize the blood vessels and the flow of blood through them to find problems of the arteries and veins, such as aneurysms, obstructions, or tears in the lining of vessels
  • Investigate abdomen and pelvis to view the gastrointestinal system, the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and the reproductive system to find tumors, bleeding, injury, etc
  • Evaluate the musculoskeletal system for arthritis, infections, tumors, tears, and breaks
  • Assess the discs and nerves of the spine for conditions such as stenosis or narrowing, disc ruptures, tumors, infection and inflammation

MRI scans provide radiologists with incredibly detailed, comprehensive, and accurate images of internal structures which otherwise would not be visible using other imaging modalities or available in all three imaging planes to provide a three-dimensional view of the structure. With MRI scans, clinicians are able to make improved decisions about diagnoses, treatment options, and the effectiveness of surgery, interventions and other treatments.
