HISTORY: RIGHT ANKLE CELLULITIS

COMPARISON: None

TECHNIQUE: An MRI of the right ankle was performed on a 1.5 Tesla magnet both before and after the intravenous administration of 18 mL of Dotarem.

There is a full thickness tear of the midportion of the Achilles tendon without rupture.  This extends from approximately 7 cm from distal insertion on the calcaneus proximally for approximately 2 cm.  There is marked surrounding soft tissue edema.  There is soft tissue edema throughout the visualized portions of the lower leg and ankle.  There are mild degenerative changes in the midfoot and hindfoot.  There is no acute fracture or discrete bone lesion identified.  There is a small amount of fluid within the joints of the midfoot and hindfoot.  The remainder of the visualized tendons are intact.  The visualized ligaments appear intact.

IMPRESSION:

Full thickness tear of the midportion of the Achilles tendon without rupture with surrounding soft tissue edema.  Mild degenerative changes of the midfoot and hindfoot.    See above for the remaining findings.
